It’s never too late to learn

If you’re baffled by computers or struggling to make the most of the internet, Surrey libraries have all the tools you need to learn how to take advantage of the online world – for free!

Even if you are completely new to computers or simply hoping to polish up on your skills and make the most of the internet, there are lots of online learning opportunities available through your local library.

You can join a free group session with other computer novices to learn basics such as how to use a keyboard and mouse, searching the internet and keeping in touch with your friends and family using email.

Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can start to take advantage of many other online resources available from Surrey libraries. You can learn plenty of useful new skills such as using the internet for leisure activities like shopping or researching your family history. If you’re beginning to search for a new job or going back to work after a break, there are online courses to help with job applications and refreshing work-related skills.

You can also make a one to one appointment with one of our Computer Buddies, who will be able to guide you as you learn.

Can you help other people use computers and get online?

We’re looking for volunteer Computer Buddies who can give up a small amount of time to provide support on a one to one basis. By volunteering with us you can:

  • Share your skills with others.
  • Engage in your local community.
  • Learn new skills and gain work experience.
  • Enjoy interesting and rewarding experiences while helping others.

Visit www.surreycc.gov.uk/libraries/learning or call 0300 200 1001 to find out more about online learning and to see how you can become a Computer Buddy. You can also follow @SurreyLibraries on Twitter.

Over recent years neglect has taken its toll on the tired building with peeling paintwork, rotten windows, pot holed car park, no heating.....
